Famous Canadian Project

This week, we will begin a Social Studies project on "Famous Canadians."  We have taken an in-depth look into the lives of 2 famous Canadians:  Terry Fox and Rick Hansen.  We have discovered that both were very selfless in their acts to both raise awareness and make a difference for others. They both created foundations to which donations are still accumulating.  They also both delivered the same message: that no matter who you are, how ordinary you are, you can make a difference and you can take hold and accomplish anything you put your mind to.  They also emphasized that "the impossible IS possible - anything is POSSIBLE."

This week, we will be choosing our own Canadian to research.  This can't be just any Canadian - it has to be someone who we would consider a "hero."  Someone who has made a positive difference to their community.  Someone who has followed their dream.

Here is a great website to get your child thinking at home.  There are many websites out there, but, in class, we will be resorting to books only.  Any internet research can be done at home.  It would be great if they had someone in mind though - this could be a Canadian athlete, artist, entertainer, astronaut, inventor, or historical figure.

See you all tomorrow!  I will be placing new Spelling words soon with a chance of  extra Do Jo points for Monday.
